DCI ALTERNATIVES ]

DCI alternatives for defence suppliers

DCI, Defence Contracts International from BiP Solutions, is the long-standing defence tender alerts and market intelligence service in the UK. Suppliers look for alternatives when they want published pricing, monthly terms, NATO agency and European coverage, or AI and data access beyond summaries. Here are the options and where DCI remains ahead.

UPDATED 15 SEP 2026[ WRITTEN BY DEFENSE EXPLORER ]

Short answer

DCI is defence-specific and certified, which most alternatives are not. Switch if price transparency, European and NATO coverage, or modern data access matter more to you than a long-established brand.

  1. 01Defense Explorer is the other defence-focused option: NATO/NSPA, EU and national sources, cited briefs, explainable fit scores, published prices, REST API and MCP.
  2. 02Tussell matches DCI’s UK spend and framework depth, for research-led teams comfortable without defence-specific feeds.
  3. 03Stotles gives UK teams a free tier, CRM sync and AI bid qualification, though with a general public-sector focus.
  4. 04Tenderlake offers pan-European coverage, a documented API and an MCP analyst at published prices.
  5. 05If your security team requires ISO 27001 or JOSCAR from suppliers, or you rely on MOD eNotice and Delta eSourcing feeds, DCI is still the safer choice.

Why teams look for alternatives to DCI

THE EVIDENCE ]

DCI’s defence credentials are real. It describes direct feeds from OJEU/TED, MOD eNotice, Contracts Finder, Delta eSourcing and US federal sources, maps 19,000+ frameworks, and displays ISO 27001, ISO 9001 and JOSCAR certification. Every plan includes a dedicated success manager. The reasons suppliers move are commercial and technical.

Pricing and terms. The plans page shows four plans with one to five licences and no prices. The terms and conditions set a one-year minimum that renews automatically unless you cancel in writing at least 30 days before renewal. The free trial lasts three days. For a small team evaluating several tools, that is a lot of commitment for little visibility.

Coverage outside the UK. All four listed plans are scoped “UK & ROI”, and DCI does not claim NATO agency sources; its NATO and EU content is editorial guidance rather than a data feed. A supplier bidding to NSPA or continental defence ministries will need something else.

AI and data access. Aria Intelligence produces contract summaries, and some Aria features are labelled “Coming Soon” on one page while listed in plans on another. The “Open API” is on the top plan only, with no public documentation, and there is no MCP connection for AI assistants.

Exports. The FAQ documents printing notices from alert emails; the frameworks module mentions data export without formats. We found no export of saved searches or notes and no export clause in the terms. Our DCI export guide covers what to do before renewal.

The alternatives

05 OPTIONS ]

Ordered for a defence supplier with buyers in Europe and NATO as well as the UK.

  1. 01[ OUR PRODUCT ]

    Defense Explorer

    Best for
Defence and dual-use suppliers selling to NATO agencies and European defence buyers as well as the UK
    Price
Scout free; Analyst €129/month; Team €89 per seat/month (three-seat minimum), excl. VAT
    Defense Explorer vs DCI

Defense Explorer is the closest like-for-like alternative in focus: it is built for defence and dual-use suppliers. It indexes NATO/NSPA, TED, the EU Funding & Tenders portal, UK Find a Tender and Contracts Finder, TenderNed, PLACSP and BOAMP, and classifies each notice as military, dual-use, civil security or unrelated with the reason shown. Beyond summaries, it produces cited briefs that quote the tender document page, extracts requirements into a matrix linked to approved company evidence, and scores fit with reasons, unknowns and blockers. Prices are published with a free Scout plan, and the REST API and MCP server are documented publicly. It does not index MOD eNotice or Delta eSourcing directly, has no spend or framework analytics, and does not yet publish security certifications like DCI’s.

    Strengths
    • +NATO/NSPA and European defence-relevant sources, not just UK & ROI
    • +Cited briefs, requirement matrix and explainable fit scores
    • +Published prices, free plan and monthly billing
    • +Publicly documented REST API and MCP server
    Watch-outs
    • No UK invoice-level spend data or framework call-off analytics
    • NCIA (NATO Communications and Information Agency) is not indexed yet: its portal sits behind a browser challenge we do not bypass
    • Does not index MOD eNotice or Delta eSourcing directly
    • A young product with no public review-site ratings yet
  2. 02

    Tussell

    Best for
UK research teams who need spend, frameworks and contacts
    Price
Starter, Plus and Pro plans on annual subscription, “Talk to Sales”; its G-Cloud 14 listing shows £11,400 per licence per year
    Read our Tussell review

Tussell covers the same UK market-intelligence ground as DCI’s spend and framework modules, with call-off detail, 81,000+ contacts and a public defence procurement tracker. It is also quote-only with annual contracts, but its G-Cloud listing shows a price and no auto-renewal on the sample order form. It has no defence-specific feeds or ISO 27001. See DCI vs Tussell.

    Strengths
    • +Deepest UK spend, framework and call-off data of the tools here
    • +Human-verified early opportunities from buyer documents
    • +Large UK decision-maker contact set
    • +Long track record with major UK suppliers
    Watch-outs
    • UK only: no EU, national European or NATO coverage
    • No published prices; annual contract
    • No pipeline, bid workflow or generative AI
    • Downloaded data carries licence and refresh obligations
  3. 03

    Stotles

    Best for
UK public-sector sales teams who want a free tier and CRM sync
    Price
Sales Studio: Free, Basic from £75/month, Growth from £475/month, Expert custom. Bid Studio: Free (3 lifetime AI reports), Growth and Expert tiers. Contracts auto-renew unless 45 days’ notice is given
    Read our Stotles review

Stotles gives UK teams tenders, pre-tender signals, expiring contracts, contacts and Salesforce or HubSpot sync, plus AI bid/no-bid reports, starting from a free tier. Its defence coverage is a UK MOD landing page rather than defence-specific feeds, and paid contracts auto-renew with 45 days’ notice.

    Strengths
    • +Deep UK and Ireland data: pre-tender signals, expiring contracts, spend and buyer contacts
    • +Native Salesforce and HubSpot sync, plus Slack
    • +Free tier and published entry prices
    • +MCP connector for mainstream AI assistants on paid plans
    Watch-outs
    • UK and Ireland focus; no NATO agency or continental national portals
    • Defence is a UK MOD keyword page, not a defence product
    • Advanced tiers are custom-priced and contracts auto-renew
    • No documented bulk data export
  4. 04

    Tenderlake

    Best for
Suppliers who need UK and European coverage with modern data access
    Price
    UK+IE £325/month (£249/month billed yearly); Europe/UK/Int+ £546/month (£396/month billed yearly); Analyst AI add-on on pay-as-you-go credits; 7-day free trial
    Read our Tenderlake review

Tenderlake publishes GBP pricing, covers the UK, EU and EEA in 24 languages, and documents a REST API and MCP analyst. It is a general public-sector tool with no defence classification or NATO agency sources, so it replaces DCI’s breadth and data access, not its defence focus.

    Strengths
    • +Broad UK and pan-European coverage with 24-language search and translation
    • +Mature developer surface: REST API with OpenAPI 3 and an MCP analyst
    • +Awards history back to 2012 for competitor and renewal analysis
    • +Published pricing and a no-card trial
    Watch-outs
    • Generalist: no defence relevance or clearance classification, no NATO agency sources
    • Priced in GBP, with AI analyst usage billed separately on credits
    • No document-level cited briefs or requirement matrix documented
    • Folder export steps documented only by video
  5. 05

    The official portals, used directly

    Best for
Very small teams with a narrow buyer list and time to search by hand
    Price
    Free

Every notice the paid tools index starts life on a public portal. UK buyers publish on Find a Tender and Contracts Finder, EU above-threshold notices appear on TED, and NATO’s support agency publishes its opportunities on the NSPA eProcurement portal. If you sell to two or three buyers and already know which portal they use, searching those portals yourself costs nothing. What you give up is one view across them, deduplication, any judgement about fit, and help reading the tender documents.

    Strengths
    • +No licence cost
    • +The notice and documents come straight from the buyer
    • +No dependency on a vendor’s coverage choices
    Watch-outs
    • One portal at a time, each with its own search and account
    • No cross-portal deduplication or fit scoring
    • Easy to miss amendments and deadline changes

How to choose

BEFORE YOU TRIAL ]

Start with your renewal date: DCI’s terms need written notice 30 days before it.

  • 01Find your DCI renewal date and diarise written cancellation to cancellations@bipsolutions.com at least 30 days before
  • 02List which DCI feeds your wins actually came from; MOD eNotice and Delta eSourcing matter more to some teams than others
  • 03Check whether your customers or security team require ISO 27001 or JOSCAR from your tools
  • 04Count bids to NATO agencies and continental buyers in the last year
  • 05Ask each alternative to show a fit score’s reasons and a brief’s citations on one of your real tenders
  • 06Price a full year for your actual number of users
  • 07Save any framework exports and notices you need before the subscription ends

Moving off DCI

DCI documents few export routes, and its terms have no export clause. Our guide covers what you can print or export from the frameworks module, how to rebuild alert profiles elsewhere, and the cancellation notice to plan for.

Questions

06 ANSWERS ]
01

What is the best alternative to DCI (Defence Contracts International)?

For a defence-focused tool with European and NATO coverage and published prices, Defense Explorer. For UK spend and framework research, Tussell.

02

How much does DCI cost?

DCI does not publish prices. Its plans page lists four plans with one to five licences and offers a free trial and demo; pricing is by quote.

03

How do I cancel a DCI subscription?

DCI’s terms set a one-year minimum that renews automatically, and require cancellation by email to cancellations@bipsolutions.com at least 30 days before renewal. Your own order form takes precedence.

04

Does DCI cover NATO tenders?

DCI publishes guidance on NATO and EU defence contracts but does not claim NATO agency sources such as NSPA as data feeds, and its listed plans are scoped UK & ROI. See NATO tender monitoring tools.

05

Is DCI or Tussell better for UK defence?

DCI is defence-specific with MOD feeds and ISO 27001; Tussell is broader UK market intelligence with deeper spend and call-off data. See DCI vs Tussell.

06

When should I stay with DCI?

When your buyers are UK defence bodies, you rely on its MOD eNotice and Delta eSourcing feeds and framework mapping, value a dedicated success manager, or need a certified provider.
