Compete for defence work without a bid department

Most small dual-use suppliers do not lose defence tenders on price. They miss them, or they bid for ones they were never eligible for. Defense Explorer is built for a team of one to five people who need to see the right NSPA, EU and national notices and make an honest call on each one.

The short version

TL;DR ]

If you are a founder or commercial director at a small defence or dual-use company, Defense Explorer gives you a defence-filtered feed, a ranked shortlist with reasons, and a way to test eligibility before you commit weeks to a bid.

  1. 01Start free, move to Analyst at €129/month when you want matching, alerts and document intelligence, and add a team when others need to work on bids.
  2. 02NATO/NSPA, TED, EU Funding & Tenders, and the Dutch, UK, Spanish and French national platforms in one place.
  3. 03Hard blockers such as a stated security clearance you do not hold are shown up front, not buried in an annex.
  4. 04An evidence library so your ISO certificates and references are checked against each tender’s requirements.
  5. 05Not the right fit if you need thousands of regional civil portals, bid-writing help or buyer contact lists.

What gets in the way

THE JOB ]

For a company of twenty people, defence procurement has an unfair shape. The notices are spread across the EU journal, NSPA’s eProcurement portal and national platforms in their own languages. Requirements like facility security clearances, national supplier registrations and NATO-country eligibility decide whether you can bid at all, and they are often stated deep in the documents. And there is no bid team to absorb a wasted month.

Defense Explorer is designed to take those three problems off the founder’s desk.

Seeing the notices

One monitored feed covers the sources a European dual-use supplier most often needs, with national platforms filtered to defence-relevant work and duplicates collapsed. Non-English notices carry an English title and summary next to the original. For NATO specifically, see our NATO tender monitoring guide.

Knowing whether you can bid

Matching returns blockers separately from the score: a clearance stated in the notice that your profile does not hold, an explicit NATO-only or EU-only restriction your country fails, or a closed notice. Anything the source did not state is listed as unknown rather than assumed to be fine. Once a tender is promising, the cited brief and requirements matrix show exactly what is asked for, with the page it is on.

Not doing it twice

Your certificates, registrations and references live in the evidence library with issuer, reference and validity dates. An item only satisfies a requirement once it is approved and in date, and credential types are never interchangeable. The next tender that asks for the same ISO certificate starts from the evidence you already recorded.

A week with Defense Explorer

04 SLOTS ]

Designed to fit around running a company: about two hours a week.

  1. STEP 01

    Monday morning, 20 minutes

Read the digest. Mark the fits that are wrong as not relevant so they stop recurring.

  2. STEP 02

    Tuesday, 30 minutes

Check blockers and unknowns on the two or three promising notices. Watchlist them so their documents are fetched.

  3. STEP 03

    Wednesday, 45 minutes

Read the brief and requirements matrix for the best one. Check which requirements your approved evidence already meets.

  4. STEP 04

    Thursday, 15 minutes

Record pursue, hold or decline with a sentence of rationale, so next quarter you know why.

Questions

05 ANSWERS ]
01

Can a small company realistically win NSPA contracts?

Some NSPA competitions are small, but eligibility conditions such as nationality, supplier registration and clearance vary by notice, so check each one. Defense Explorer shows explicit country restrictions and stated clearances as blockers, and never treats a NATO buyer name alone as a restriction. See our NATO tender monitoring guide.

02

We do not have a security clearance. Is it still worth it?

Yes, as long as the tool is honest about it. Clearance is only marked as required when the notice states it. Where it is inferred from the category or unknown, you see that label, so you can decide whether to read further rather than excluding the notice automatically.

03

Is our company data used by other customers?

No. Your profile, evidence, pursuits and decisions are scoped to your workspace. Briefs are generated from public tender documents; documents you import yourself are visible only to your company. See trust and security for details.

04

How does this compare with Tendify for a small team?

Tendify is cheaper for broad European coverage and has unlimited seats, but no NATO agency sources or defence classification. We compare them in detail in Defense Explorer vs Tendify and the SME buyer’s guide.

05

Do you help write the bid?

No. Defense Explorer stops at qualification and the bid decision. It does not draft proposals, submit bids or contact buyers.
