Defense Explorer vs Tendify
Tendify is a low-cost European tender tool with very wide portal coverage. Defense Explorer is narrower and built for defence: NATO and national sources, defence and clearance classification, cited briefs and a recorded bid decision. Which fits depends on how much of your pipeline is defence.
The short version
[ VERDICT ]Pick Tendify if you bid for civil public contracts across many European countries and want the lowest price for a whole team. Pick Defense Explorer if defence ministries, NATO agencies and clearance questions decide whether a notice is worth reading.
- 01Coverage is the biggest difference. Tendify lists more than 4,000 portals, country by country. Defense Explorer indexes eight sources, but they include NATO/NSPA and defence-filtered national platforms that Tendify does not list.
- 02Both write AI briefs that point back to the tender documents. Defense Explorer adds a requirement matrix linked to your reviewed company evidence, and flags requirements again when a buyer amends the notice.
- 03Both have a team pipeline. Tendify includes unlimited seats at €149/month; Defense Explorer Team is €89 per seat with a three-seat minimum, so a larger team pays more with us.
- 04Defense Explorer has a REST API and an MCP server. Tendify documents neither, and no CRM integration.
- 05Tendify will almost certainly surface more civil notices. Defense Explorer is designed to show fewer, and to explain why each one is there.

The differences that matter
[ 04 POINTS ]Most rows in the table are detail. These four decide the choice.
Breadth of portals vs depth on defence buyers
Tendify’s coverage page counts portals per country: over a thousand each for Poland and Italy, close to nine hundred for France, and every country marked active. For a supplier of software, construction or medical goods bidding into regional and municipal buyers, that breadth is the product. We cannot match it, and do not try.
Defense Explorer covers eight sources: TED, NATO/NSPA, EU Funding & Tenders, TenderNed, UK Find a Tender, UK Contracts Finder, Spain’s PLACSP and France’s BOAMP. National platforms are filtered to defence-relevant notices. The one Tendify does not list is NSPA, the NATO Support and Procurement Agency. NCIA, the NATO Communications and Information Agency, is not in either product: its portal sits behind a browser challenge that we do not bypass. If your buyers are regional councils, Tendify wins. If they are defence ministries and NATO agencies, portal count is the wrong measure.
Knowing whether a notice is really defence
CPV codes are a poor guide to defence work. The defence equipment family also contains fire engines and police equipment, so a keyword or CPV monitor either floods you with civil notices or misses dual-use work described in civil language. Tendify’s search setup turns a plain-language description into countries, CPV codes, keywords and values, which is fast, but it does not document any defence or clearance classification.
Defense Explorer classifies each notice as military, dual-use, civil security or unrelated, and shows the reason. Clearance is recorded separately as stated in the notice, inferred from category only, none found, or unknown. A missing clearance is shown as a blocker next to the fit score, not averaged into it. See explainable matching.
From brief to bid decision
Tendify’s briefs answer four default questions (financial standing, scope, technical constraints and timeline) plus your own, and every answer references the document text. Its Riko chat answers follow-up questions inside the tender. Tendify’s own help centre is clear that Riko does not decide eligibility and is not a bid-writing tool. That is a good, honest brief.
Defense Explorer goes one step further into qualification. Every claim in a brief cites the page and quotes the text, and a quote that cannot be found in the document is downgraded to unknown rather than shown as fact. Requirements are extracted into a matrix you can correct, and linked to company evidence such as certificates and references. Only approved evidence inside its validity dates can satisfy a requirement. When the buyer publishes an amendment, affected requirements are flagged for re-review, and the bid/no-bid decision is stored with its rationale. See cited briefs.
Getting data in and out
Tendify documents no API, MCP server, CRM or Slack integration, and no self-serve export of your pipeline or saved tenders. Tender documents download one by one or in bulk. Its terms let you request a reasonable export of customer data in a common format within 30 days of termination, by writing to the company.
Defense Explorer exports the requirements matrix as CSV, briefs as PDF and qualification packs as PDF or XLSX, and exposes opportunities, matches, pursuits and signals through a REST API and an MCP server on the Team plan. If you are moving away from Tendify, read how to export your data from Tendify before your renewal date.

Questions
[ 06 ANSWERS ]01Is Tendify cheaper than Defense Explorer?
For almost any team, yes. Tendify lists €79/month for up to three countries and €149/month for unlimited countries, both with unlimited team members, and marks both as a limited-time offer. Defense Explorer has a free Scout plan, Analyst at €129/month for one user and Team at €89 per seat per month with a three-seat minimum.
02Does Tendify cover NATO tenders?
Tendify’s coverage page, checked on 15 September 2026, lists no NATO agency sources such as NSPA or NCIA. Defense Explorer indexes NSPA. Neither indexes NCIA today. See our guide to NATO tender monitoring tools.
03Do both tools use AI on the tender documents?
Yes. Tendify’s briefs and Riko chat reference the document text. Defense Explorer’s briefs cite the page and quote for every claim, downgrade unverifiable quotes to unknown, and extract requirements into a matrix linked to your company evidence.
04Can I connect either tool to Claude or ChatGPT?
Defense Explorer runs a remote MCP server that works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients; see MCP setup. We found no API or MCP connection documented for Tendify.
05Which is better for a small defence SME?
If most of your pipeline is defence and dual-use, Defense Explorer’s classification and qualification save more time than extra portals. If defence is a small share and you bid widely in civil markets, Tendify’s price and breadth make more sense. Our guide for defence SMEs goes through the trade-offs.
06How was this comparison made?
From Tendify’s public website, help centre, pricing page, terms and privacy policy, checked on 15 September 2026. We found no Tendify listings on G2, Capterra, Trustpilot or TrustRadius. Sources are linked at the end of the page.
